CoinLedger allows you to add a custom asset to your account in Account Settings. While CoinLedger's coverage for crypto assets is comprehensive, there are some scenarios where it might be useful to add a custom asset to your CoinLedger account. Those include:

  1. You interacted with a crypto asset that doesn't exist in CoinLedger's system yet, and you want to represent this transaction in your CoinLedger account

  2. You want to import a manual or CSV file transaction containing an NFT to your CoinLedger account, but this NFT doesn't exist in CoinLedger's system yet

If either of these situations apply to you, you can add these transactions to CoinLedger by creating a custom asset in your account settings. Learn how to do so below!

How to Add a Custom Asset to Your Account

You can add a custom asset to your CoinLedger account from your account settings. Note that when you add this asset, it will only exist on your CoinLedger account and can be edited at anytime.

Step 1

Navigate to your account Settings by clicking the profile icon in the top right corner of the page.

Step 2

Navigate to Advanced Settings and then select Add Asset under the Custom Assets section.

Step 3

Next, a pop up menu will appear which allows you to create your custom asset. To create a custom asset in CoinLedger, you are required at a minimum to add a Ticker Symbol as well as a Display Name for this custom asset. You can also add a Blockchain, Contract Address and Token Id. This is useful if the custom asset you are creating is an NFT.

First, add a Ticker Symbol under the Ticker Symbol field. For this demonstration, the ticker symbol of my custom asset will be TOYD.

Next, under Display Name add the name of the coin.

Ex: Token Demo is the asset, TOYD is the ticker symbol.

If my custom asset is not an NFT, then this information is all I would need to enter and I could simply pause here and press Save. My custom asset under the ticker symbol TOYD will now be added to CoinLedger. If this scenario applies to you, continue on to Step 4.

However, if your custom asset is an NFT, you should continue on with these steps.

Under Blockchain, select the blockchain your asset is on. Then, add the contract address.

Finally, add the Token ID, then press Save.

Step 4

Now, your custom asset has been created in CoinLedger. You can import any transactions containing this asset into CoinLedger. Once you have done so, you will need to specify the Historical Price for your new custom asset. Learn why this is important here.

To add your custom asset's historical price, navigate to the Transactions page and select the Historical Price Warning banner.

After this, select Update Historical Prices.

Now, you can manually enter the value of 1 unit of your custom asset at the particular timestamp you were trading it. Then, press Save All Prices. Your historical price warning will now be resolved.

Step 5

You can view all transactions containing your custom asset on the Transactions page by searching for your custom coin under the Assets filter.

Step 6

Remember that you can edit your custom asset at any time from the Advanced Settings page.

Once a custom asset gets created in CoinLedger, we automatically create an "asset map" for this custom asset that will appear under Asset Maps in your Advanced Settings. This ensures that the custom asset will be applied in your subsequent imports. Learn more about these asset maps here.

If you want to edit or modify this custom asset map, you can do so on the page below.
