If your API, CSV or blockchain import into CoinLedger is failing, here are some troubleshooting steps we recommend trying!
Double check that CoinLedger integrates with the exchange or blockchain you are attempting to import transactions from
CoinLedger integrates with hundreds of exchanges, blockchains and wallets, allowing you to import data seamlessly to ensure that your tax reporting and portfolio tracking calculations are up to date. However, in the rare scenario where you are trying to import data from an exchange or blockchain that we do not integrate with yet, your import will fail.
This is why we recommend double checking that CoinLedger offers support for the exchange, wallet or blockchain you are trying to import before importing. On our Help Center we have detailed step-by-step guides for how to import transactions from every exchange, wallet and blockchain we support. Start by searching for the exchange or wallet you would like to import. If no results are returned from our Help Center, this likely means we don't have an automatic integration built with this exchange or blockchain yet - however, you can still import your transactions manually through one of these two methods!
Restart the import process and make sure you are following the correct steps
Sometimes an import failure can be temporary, and in this case simply retrying the failed import will resolve your issue. So, if you're encountering an import failure, the first step we recommend taking is retrying the import. However, we recommend following along with a Help Center guide while doing so to ensure that you are following the proper steps.
On our Help Center we have detailed step-by-step guides for how to import transactions from every exchange, wallet and blockchain we support. You can check out those guides HERE and start by searching for the exchange or wallet you would like to import. Follow along with the steps in our guide for the exchange or blockchain you are trying to import, and your import should succeed.
If you are importing via CSV file, make sure the file you are importing into CoinLedger is an unopened and unedited file
Sometimes if a file is opened, edited or renamed before importing, formatting changes will automatically be applied to it that can cause the import to fail. To avoid this, try exporting a new file from your exchange and import it without opening, editing or renaming it.
Make sure your file, API or blockchain import does not contain unsupported transaction types
There are some transaction types that CoinLedger does not yet support. This includes futures, derivatives and perpetuals trades as well as crypto loan or lending transactions. We are working hard to add full support for these transaction types in the near future. However, any imports containing these transaction types will fail at this time.
Consider switching to an alternative import method if you are dealing with a time sensitive situation, like filing your taxes before the deadline
If you are in a time sensitive situation and must file your taxes before the deadline set by the government or tax authority in your country, you can always switch import methods if the first method you tried is failing. For example, if you are trying to import your Binance transactions via API but the import is failing, consider switching to Binance's file import method instead if your tax deadline is coming up.
If your import continues to fail, take note of the error message you are seeing
If you've attempted all of these troubleshooting steps and yet your import is still failing, take note of the error message you see on your screen. For example, if you see an error message that says Unexpected Transaction Type this most likely means that the exchange has made a change to their CSV or API integration, and our Support Team will need to update our importer to account for these changes. In this case, the fastest solution is to reach out to our Support Team.
If you are seeing any other error message, please take note of what it is and document it so that our Support Team has as much information as possible to troubleshoot your case.
